Graduated!

T is officially out of high school!! It was certainly a special night to watch 614 seniors walk across the stage. Graduation was held at the Eagle Stadium, and it was hot with over 3000 people enjoying the ceremony. We had a family dinner at Mimi's, T. choice, and the food was wonderful. She did get to spend some time with her favorite aunt and uncle and cousins before heading off to the big night. After the ceremony she left for the lock in party and came home about 6:30 this morning. This little bird is flapping her wings and I know her flight to college will be so exciting.
Congratulations Bean, we love you and are so proud of you!

This Little Indian

will graduate in 6 days. Graduation is next Friday night, finals are done, but school still continues. They have to go this week until Friday, then back to school next Monday and Tuesday, no one is happy about the Monday and Tuesday!
It is hard to believe that you will leave for college in a few months, always keep marching to your own drum!!

Yosef, My Cousin

I am so glad I don't have to pick favorites with my bugs relatives,it would be impossible to do. Marie located my little know cousin Yosef, in a far away country, Haifa, Israel, this last week. Evidently he knows some of the best people to visit, looking at the building behind him:)I really like his tailpipes and spoiler, plus the license plate is a nice accessory.Click on the pictures for a better view.
The past few weeks, we have been the big, big, bugs on the windshield, but Monday, we became the windshield. Turned on the wipers and cleaned off all the nasty bug juice and life is once again sunny!

Prom Night

After days of prep work, the long awaited night arrived and the big event went off with just a glitch. Her date, Duncan, picked her up and they met her friends, since grade school, for pictures. The prom was held at the Bob Bullock Museum in Austin, so they had quiet a drive. He got lost and parked 6 blocks away, they walked 6 blocks in the wrong direction and 6 blocks back to the parking garage. T. loved that walk in the heels:)Then they were in one lane and he realized he needed to turn so moved over to that lane, there was a police car behind them and pulled them over. The policeman thought they had been drinking and gave him a DUI test! He passed, of course, and so got of with a warning and then the policeman helped them find their way to the big event. T said the band was lame but she still had fun. T was voted the class clown and has the crown to prove it. The first picture is my "dances to her own drum" child on her way to a concert Friday night and then on Saturday transforms into this! The group picture is funny to me, she is the rebel dresser and thinker and her date has the shortest hair, go figure.

VW album for NSD

I didn't get to do much for NSD but I did have fun working on my VW family tree album. You can click on the picture for a larger image. Here is the vw family tree album
from the beginning. The first page is the day we brought the bug home. I used Paper Loft paper, the cute little MS car punch, coredination paper (love how that sands),and MR tree and bird. I covered the tree with green flocking...what a mess. Hard to get it covered and not worth the effort!
The "announcement" was cut from chipboard, raw on this side and covered on the back.Cut the flower out of grunge board that I ran through the CB embossing folder, and the peace sign is a QK die.
The second page of the insert, MR bird,Branch and clear date thingy. Ran the bird through the CB embossing and inked. The next is an acrylic insert, with a QK sun, some acrylic hearts and the MAMBI peace bling. Threw in a few felt flowers and a little stamping. The back of the acrylic page is just a mirror of the front, and the last page was a little "flower power". At least the WIP has made some progress.

No BLT

Today was Doctor day to remove R staples. It is such a good thing I never wanted to be a nurse! The nurse told him no BLT until at least June 5 when he goes back for X-Rays and checkup. BLT for all us laypeople is no bending, lifting or twisting. He can't drive until he goes back for the checkup. He has done remarkably well considering all the repair work they did on his spine. We saw the 4 screws, 2 rods, and the bone grafts, not pretty, but the pain is gone:)
We have had rain all day today and south of us was a tornado, so storm season is here. This little cardinal didn't care, he just wanted food. We have enjoyed seeing the birds while sitting on our patio waiting out the recovery time.

Soccer Banquet

The end of an era was last Friday night. We didn't get to attend because of R's back surgery but T did get some fun pictures. It is hard to believe this season was the last time these girls played soccer together "officially". T has played soccer with a few of the girls for 10 years and some friends she has made through the years on various soccer teams....ahhh the memories! She set up a memory table and it was great going through all the soccer scrapbooks reliving great memories.

The Family Tree Sprouts

A Long Week Later

We are home from surgery! The surgery was scheduled for 6 hours but lasted a little over 8 hrs. He came through with flying colors and even came home a day early. I do appreciate Marie, Janet, Jimmye Sue and Veronica for sitting with me during that long wait, it did make the time go faster. Overall the nurses were OK, just sometimes the right hand didn't know there was a left hand. We still have a long recovery period but he is walking a little without the walker and is cutting back on his pain pills, ( maybe I can use them)No driving, bending, lifting, stretching for at least a month, he will just have to watch a lot of TV and take naps:)He did get to come home Thursday and we were both glad to get home. A nice long nap without interruptions was a great thing. Our son came this weekend and he always provides entertainment when he is here. I bought him a "grabber" to reach those things that you drop...great entertainment to see who can pick up what:)

To Kill a Mockingbird

not really but we have a pair of pesky mockingbirds living in our tree in the backyard. We really enjoyed the antics of these 2 birds until they spied our juicy, ripe, red strawberries. They honed in on these luscious berries eating them right down to the stem. We planted these strawberries last year, not expecting much but, surprise, these are producing a nice size strawberry. Hubby put some wire baskets over the berries 2 days ago and the mockingbirds were not happy. They would sit on the windmill above the plants, zoom down, sit on the baskets, walk around the baskets, trying to find a way to get at just one of the red berries. They do not give up, everyday they see if we have moved the baskets just enough to get to one berry. T decided the birds should not get all the berries yesterday.

Next week

is going to be a really long week. I mentioned in a post that there was some turmoil going on, maybe it is just stress. My hubby is having some major back surgery Monday and will be in the hospital 4-6 days. I am sure he will do fine and feel much better after the initial surgery pain. The recovery time is 5-6 months before the bone graft and everything heals and he is back to normal. I will be the first to admit I have a hard time with people in pain so luckily I have friends that have volunteered to drive 45 miles one way to come babysit us and help us out at home when we get back. I am very grateful for all of this support and help and it means a lot to both of us. Thanks so much!

It's a Bug's Life... a beginning

I finally, finally started on my bugs life album. This was a hardback book that had major reconstructive surgery.I saw on the web someone alter a hard back book and decided I could do it! Of course this is still a work in progress but at least now my bugs relatives will have their very own heritage album:)The pages are 9x5 chipboard and acrylic, and I am using Cosmos Girl Friday paper and chipboard embellies. These are the before and after pictures. I have some more charms to dangle from the hangy thing but at the moment they are hiding.

Meet My Longhorn Cuz!!

My friend Karen's hubby, climbed on a stone wall to take this picture over a chain link fence of my corralled University of Texas Longhorn Cuz! Cute little fella isn't he:)Thanks to everyone who sends me fun relatives! I have started on the album, it is coming soon!

Almost There

I finished one more vacation layout, yeah me!
I used the Fiskars threading water punch and managed successfully to go around all 4 corners on the small blue square. The sign says the hotel was originally owned by the first original 7 astronauts. The lobby and dining room had memorabilia of all 7 astronauts,a step back in time. The hotel has been remodelled but it was great to stay in a little piece of history.
Prom and Soccer Banquet shopping is finished! T and I went shopping this week and surprisingly it was successful! I know I would hate to work in retail during this time of year. The stores were very busy with girls trying on prom dresses in every dressing room.I hope T has learned to hang up the cast-offs, I hate going into dressing rooms with the rejects just thrown on the floor or chairs. After what seemed like hundreds of dresses and shoes later, 2 are hanging in her closet! Pictures don't exists, I did have my camera but I had a headache and was busy hanging up the rejects.

Another one

I thought this would be my next to last vacation layout but I found 3 more pictures, but hey at least I did another one. This is just a collage of some random shots of various states we went through last summer.
Met Jimmye Sue and Janet for lunch today at a restaurant downtown. I had to give them directions but I could not remember the name of the restaurant, I knew it was Bistro and Alley. They found it in spite of my outstanding directions, and the name is Down the Alley Bistro. Great Panini Tuscan Turkey sandwiches and a great visit. Then home to the turmoil stirring around here, but that is another story.

Lickety Slip

I am so close to finishing this vacation album! I do like using these page protectors, makes it go lickey split. My goal is to finish it this month, thats 30 days to do 2 pages, should be able to do this.
I made some fun little circle flowers, love doing these! Can you tell I love using the border punches:)
