Happy New Year's Eve

I hope that everyone will have a happy, safe, and healthy New Year! We are enjoying a quiet evening at home watching Times Square on TV. Seems a lot safer than being on the streets. Last night a police office had his leg crushed when he was pinned between his patrol car and another car and a drunk rammed the rear of the disabled car. The drunk had 2 previous arrests, the last 2 weeks ago. The police officer will never be the same because a grown man made a stupid choice. We just happened to drive by a few minutes after it happened.
On a lighter note, T is feeling better after lots of cold meds, well enough to go to a friends house to celebrate 2009. This is a picture of her on the snowmobile, sure does look cold, and on Christmas morning opening some nice "smell really good", even though she couldn't smell!
Happy New Year!

Cedar Hill Relative

I haven't really forgotten about my VW family, I just never seem to have the camera when I see them, sometimes they are a bit elusive and camera shy. I knew this one had to be a "cuzin" we have matching flowers. You can see their flower on the dash! She is a unique "cuzin", look at the painted "nails"and red/maroon top! We where shopping at a outdoor mall in Cedar Hill and I spied her parked there.

Make Your Own Glue Dots

According to a gal over at Splitcoasters:

"You can make your own glue dots by dropping blobs (any size you like) of Aleene's Tack It Over and Over glue onto waxed paper.

I did this and folded the excess waxed paper over top, once they were 'dry'.

All I have to do is open up the waxed paper, pick off one of the blobs and use like regular store-bought glue dots. They are great and way cheaper!

Also the dots can be moved before they 'set' so, if you get a wrong placement, at first, you can pick them off and move them."

This is a great idea!

Home from the Mountains

T made it home last night about 9:30. 4 out of the 5 girls are so sick and the long 10 hour drive yesterday was miserable. The only one not sick is also the only one who can't drive. They all have horrible colds, coughing and just plain sick. She spent today resting and taking meds. We had to run a few errands and the damp air didn't help her at all. Hopefully she will be better tomorrow and we can leave town, if not we will just be here until the weekend. T is so glad to be back in a warmer climate, it was 34 today as compared to the 7 for a high during her road trip. She had a great time even being sick.
I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a safe Holiday!!

Snow and Fruitcake

T is loving Steamboat Springs, even with the extreme cold. She said it was going to be about 12 today and forecast of snow. This isn't her skiing but this was the snow 2 days ago.
Here in Central Texas we opted for warmer weather! The high yesterday was in the 60's.We decided to take a road trip to Corsicana for fruitcake. I know that we are among the few that like fruitcake but the Collin Street Bakery makes the best fruitcake in the world. We did a little scrapbook shopping at Scrappin Good Time, had lunch at at fun downtown soda fountain and headed to Waxahachie to pick up a few items. We stopped by the Crafty Scrapper and I found some goodies on sale, then we started home. The traffic on I35 was horrible all the way home, I guess the Holiday traffic has started in full force.

Heading for Steamboat Springs & Cookie Recipe

These really do have a lot in common. T is leaving today and will be gone until the 21st for Steamboat Springs, CO and a few days of snowboarding and cold weather. She is flying with 4 other girls and meeting their friend who goes to college there. This is her first "big adventure", hence the need for the the cookie recipe below. The five of them are driving back from Ft Collins, Co, via Manhattan, Kansas, and eventually will end up in Texas, hence the need for the cookie recipe below. They will be driving in all of this cold, snowy, nasty weather, hence the need for the cookie recipe below.
Off to make cookies for the next 5 days:

Cuervo Christmas Cookies

1 tsp. Baking Soda 4 large eggs
1 cup water 1 cup nuts
1 cup sugar 2 cups dried fruit
1 cup brown sugar 1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequila
1 tsp. lemon juice 1 cup butter

Sample Tequila to check quality. Take a large bowl, check Tequila again for quality.pour 1 cup and drink.
Turn on the electric mixer, beat 1 cup butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add 1 tsp. of sugar. Beat again.
At this point it is best to make sure that the tequila is still ok, so try another cup just in case.
Turn off the mixer thingy. Break 2 eggs and add to bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit.
Pick up fruit off the floor. Mix on the turner. If the fred druit gets stuck in the beaters, just pry loose with a drewscriver.
Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift 2 cups of salt, or something.
Check the Cuervo. Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add table. Add a spoon of sugar or somefink.
Whatever you find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over.
Don't forget to beat off the turner.
Finally, throw the bowl out, finish the Cuervo and make sure to put the stove in the dishwasher for cleaning...CHERRY MISTMAS!!!!!

Travel Layouts

I actually did some more pages for my vacation album this weekend. I am almost finished with the album! I love the Bazzill Lickey Slip albums, makes an album go much faster.
The top layout is a pocket page. I wanted to see all of the inserts so I stitched a transparency to the paper and stamped on it.

Powder Puff Football

Sunday afternoon was the annual Powder Puff Football game, the Seniors vs. the Juniors. The weather was wonderful and the girls had a lot of fun. The Seniors won by a touchdown! The group of very attractive cheerleaders encouraged the Seniors on the victory. Sometimes the football players had to help the cheerleaders out!

Scrapbook Fever Friends Crop

Saturday was such a blast!! I went to the monthly SFFC and spent the entire day scrapping and visiting with friends and fellow scrappers that I had not seen in a while. Linda came by to visit ( still trying to get her come to one of these to scrap)and it was great to see her! Miss ya lady! Everyone brought food and I think we all suffered from sugar overdose.Jimmy Sue made us an awesome custom acrylic stamp with our name on it! Marie and Patti made us the cutest fork Santa for our trees, some great custom paper, plus some yummy hot chocolate mix. There were great little presents of joy to share and some great door prizes. Yes, Janet I am going to make the card:). We were all instructed to wear Santa hats, but some didn't follow instructions, and of course every group has to have the rebel angel, complete with Halo ( though I think it was a tad tarnished ).There were about 25 there but by the time we took this picture, only the die hards were still around. This was a great way to spend a day with friends during the Holiday Season!

Tim Holtz Goodies

The goodies I won came in the mail yesterday. Wow that was fast! As you can tell I received fun Heidi Swapp bling ( can never have too much bling), ghost snowflakes, and really pretty chandelier crystals. The 12 days of tags is over but the tags are beautiful and awesome techniques to use throughout the year.

Knitting

Last year I decided I wanted to learn to knit. I did learn many years ago but totally remember nothing. I thought I would make some cut little caps for T to wear around and be stylin'. I made 2, these 2, and decided once again knitting is not for me. Evidently the caps were not as stylin' as I thought she thought they would be. The caps were tossed in her closet, forgotten until this week. Now they are "stylin"! I guess this cold weather will entice her to put anything on her head.

Snow!!

We actually had snow last night!! Yesterday at noon it was 81 degrees, last night at 10 pm it was 30 degrees, a 50 degree drop!! I preferred the 81 degree weather.
It started to rain last night, turned to sleet, then some big soft snowflakes fell for a few mintues. Here is the proof of all of our snow!

I Won

I have really been lucky the last few months. I won some wonderful TT stamps from Catherines blog and a few days ago I won something from Tim Holtz 12 Christmas tags.I don't know what I won but I am sure I will love it. His tags are beautiful.

8 x 10 Chipboard Album

I am working on this 8 x 10 chipboard album. The front is cut out so you can see the title page. I covered the front page with MME paper and painted the letters red and then went over them with glossy accents. I do like this larger size for more pictures and journaling.

Organizing Stamps and Dies

I know several of you have seen my stamp storage, but I do love the way it works for me. My dh cut some chipboard tab dividers and someday maybe I will cover them. I did take all of my wood mounted stamps off of the wood and add them to my acrylic stamps. Megan shares a great tutortial here. I don't have as many stamps as she does, but I love having them all in one basket, ready to go.

I was also looking for a way to store my small QK, CB embossing folders, and Sizzix dies that would be portable. I had them stored in these storage folders but they were in 3ring binders that were awkward and hard to pack for a retreat. I found this metal baskek at Line-N-Things on sale and decided to try it. Worked great for me! It even holds my long strip dies and the pads for using in the CB.

Fork Bow and a Light Bulb

Have absolutely nothing in common but fun!

I found this on the net a few months ago, sent it to my friend and she was nice enough to redo it so we could post it. Thanks to the person that did this, it really works, and thanks to Janet for redoing it. Tying a bow for me is not always easy but believe me this really works!

The little light bult is one of many I stamped for our tree. The light bulbs do look pretty sparkling in front of the white lights on our trees!

We are actually having some cold for here weather, it is 29 now and we certainly aren't used to these chilly nights and cool days!

Green and gold spray paint, feathers, rubons, stickles, and bling, this is the result.Oh the most important part, lots and lots of glue dots!! Scrapbooking supplies sure help her out with all of these projects! I think it turned out super and it is fun to watch her create these things!

I have been wanting to do an album of all of the adventures and fun times I have had with my friends on our road trip and retreat journeys. I finally started on it and luckily Janet has all of the pictures in the order we took the trips. Here is the album cover and the title page. It is 8x10 chipboard and the inside has tabs on each of the pages. I am using BG archaic, metal from 10 second studio, lots of chipboard (from me), stickles, what ever else I want to put on this work in progress.

Thanksgiving and Monday

Monday was a breeze, well almost! The doctor visited with me before the procedure and said that colon cancer is the 2nd largest killer among women and could be avoided. So all you women get the test done, the worst part is the day before, I slept through Monday. I was a big chicken and had put it off for several months, luckily I think everything is OK, they did remove one tiny polyp, so take my suggestion and get it done!

T had several of her friends over Thanksgiving, their parents had to work, so we fed them. Always fun with a house full of teenage girls. My son had to work so the food we had ready for him, was spread among these lovelies!

Guess What I Am Doing Monday at 8 am?

So far the night before description is right on, 64 ounces is impossible to drink, no matter how hungry you are! The drink is a little different, you mix the powder with chilled Gatorade ( no red or purple) and drink away.

This is from news hound Dave Barry's colonoscopy journal:
I called my friend Andy Sable, a gastroenterologist, to make an
appointment for a colonoscopy. A few days later, in his office, Andy
showed me a color diagram of the colon, a lengthy organ that appears to go
all over the place, at one point passing briefly through Minneapolis .
Then Andy explained the colonoscopy procedure to me in a thorough,
reassuring and patient manner. I nodded thoughtfully, but I didn't really
hear anything he said, because my brain was shrieking, quote, 'HE'S GOING
TO STICK A TUBE 17,000 FEET UP YOUR BEHIND!'
I left Andy's office with some written instructions, and a prescription
for a product called 'MoviPrep,' which comes in a box large enough to hold a microwave oven. I will discuss MoviPrep in detail later; for now suffice it to say that we must never allow it to fall into the hands of America's enemies.
I spent the next several days productively sitting around being nervous.
Then, on the day before my colonoscopy, I began my preparation. In accordance with my instructions, I didn't eat any solid food that day; all I had was chicken broth, which is basically water, only with less flavor. Then, in the evening, I took the MoviPrep. You mix two packets of powder together in a one-liter plastic jug, then you fill it with lukewarm water. (For those unfamiliar with the metric system, a liter is about 32 gallons.) Then you have to drink the whole jug. This takes about an hour, because MoviPrep tastes -and here I am being kind - like a mixture of goat spit and urinal cleanser, with just a hint of lemon.
The instructions for MoviPrep, clearly written by somebody with a great
sense of humor, state that after you drink it, 'a loose, watery bowel
movement may result.' This is kind of like saying that after you jump off
your roof, you may experience contact with the ground.
MoviPrep is a nuclear laxative. I don't want to be too graphic, here,
but: Have you ever seen a space-shuttle launch? This is pretty much the
MoviPrep experience, with you as the shuttle. There are times when you
wish the commode had a seat belt. You spend several hours pretty much
confined to the bathroom, spurting violently. You eliminate everything.
And then, when you figure you must be totally empty, you have to drink
another liter of MoviPrep, at which point, as far as I can tell, your
bowels travel into the future and start eliminating food that you have not
even eaten yet.
After an action-packed evening, I finally got to sleep. The next morning
my wife drove me to the clinic. I was very nervous. Not only was I
worried about the procedure, but I had been experiencing occasional return
bouts of MoviPrep spurtage. I was thinking, 'What if I spurt on Andy?'
How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would
not be enough.
At the clinic I had to sign many forms acknowledging that I understood and
totally agreed with whatever the heck the forms said. Then they led me to
a room full of other colonoscopy people, where I went inside a little
curtained space and took off my clothes and put on one of those hospital
garments designed by sadist perverts, the kind that, when you put it on,
makes you feel even more naked than when you are actually naked.
Then a nurse named Eddie put a little needle in a vein in my left hand.
Ordinarily I would have fainted, but Eddie was very good, and I was
already lying down. Eddie also told me that some people put vodka in
their MoviPrep. At first I was ticked off that I hadn't thought of this
is, but then I pondered what would happen if you got yourself too tipsy to
make it to the bathroom, so you were staggering around in full Fire Hose
Mode. You would have no choice but to burn your house.
When everything was ready, Eddie wheeled me into the procedure room, where
Andy was waiting with a nurse and an anesthesiologist. I did not see the
17,000-foot tube, but I knew Andy had it hidden around there somewhere. I
was seriously nervous at this point. Andy had me roll over on my left
side, and the anesthesiologist began hooking something up to the needle in
my hand. There was music playing in the room, and I realized that the
song was 'Dancing Queen' by ABBA. I remarked to Andy that, of all the
songs that could be playing during this particular procedure, 'Dancing Queen' had to be the least appropriate.
'You want me to turn it up?' said Andy, from somewhere behind me. 'Ha ha,'
I said. And then it was time, the moment I had been dreading for more
than a decade. If you are squeamish, prepare yourself, because I am going
to tell you, in explicit detail, exactly what it was like.
I have no idea. Really. I slept through it. One moment, ABBA was
yelling 'Dancing Queen, feel the beat of the tambourine,' and the next
moment, I was back in the other room, waking up in a very mellow mood.
Andy was looking down at me and asking me how I felt. I felt excellent.
I felt even more excellent when Andy told me that It was all over, and
that my colon had passed with flying colors. I have never been prouder of
an internal organ.
